Tuesday 19th May - bike ***** - Felixstowe to Levington Marina via Trimley
Marshes – Sunny and hot.
Another hot and sunny day in Felixstowe today, even hotter tomorrow with
temperatures expected to reach 27 degrees and after two windsurf foiling
session in a row I decided against waiting for a sea breeze and get out on
the bikes again. So, after a video chat with Grandson Arlo and doing my
exercises in the back garden with the Swifts making a welcome return after
disappearing for a few days? With a salad packed we leave home around
12.30, out along the Trimley Road, over the dual carriageway then left our
bikes over the gate and take the footpath down towards Felixstowe docks.
Reaching the long track to the bird reserve at Trimley Marshes where I
cycle along the River Orwell path towards Levington with the tide pretty
low. We stop at the mouth of the dead tree lagoon right by the river for
our yummy lunch. It is great to see boats back out on the Orwell, several
yachts making slow progress in the light airs plus boats out fishing for
bass:) I had already spotted Avocets in the winter flood where all the bird
hides are still closed with geese and oyster catchers out on the mud bank
with cormorants flying past. Time to continue onto Loompit lake as two
coaster head up to Ipswich. There was several family groups enjoying the
weather on the beach and we stopped by Loompit for awhile to watch the
trout jumping, luckily the algae seems to have gone so no dead fish:) There
was ducks and geese with youngsters and a man fly fishing, he caught two
while we sat there and released them to fight another day :) Then onto the
marina which was a hive of activity with boat owners getting their yachts
ready for the summer season:) Lets hope we are allowed back windsurfing
here soon, hopefully later this week:) Then out of the marina and across
the fields to our avenue of trees eventually arriving at Morisons where Mag
wanted to buy some plants but there was a big que so we gave it a miss and
headed home. So, another great bike ride despite the heat and we were
knackered perhaps we are doing too much and so tucked into a cuppa with a
rock cake. With it being hot tomorrow, it could be a take it easy day
before hopefully a couple of windsurfing sessions on Friday and
Saturday!!!
PS – the large herd of deer seem to have disappeared, perhaps they are
hiding in the woods giving birth????
